Black Gram
Black gram (Vigna mungo) is an important pulse crop widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions for its high protein content and easy digestibility. It grows best in warm climates with temperatures ranging from 25–35°C and is commonly grown during both kharif and rabi seasons. Black gram thrives in well-drained loamy to sandy loam soils with good moisture-holding capacity and a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5. The crop requires moderate rainfall of about 60–90 cm and is sensitive to waterlogging and frost. Black gram has a short growing duration and benefits from timely sowing, proper drainage, and balanced nutrient management, making it a suitable crop for diverse agro-climatic conditions.
