Leafy Vegetables
Leafy vegetables are an important group of crops grown mainly for their tender, nutritious leaves, such as spinach, lettuce, fenugreek, amaranthus, and cabbage greens. They grow best in cool to moderate climates, although some varieties can tolerate warmer conditions. Leafy vegetables thrive in fertile, well-drained loamy soils rich in organic matter, with an ideal pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. These crops require adequate sunlight and regular irrigation to maintain continuous leaf growth, as moisture stress can reduce leaf quality and yield. Proper soil preparation, timely sowing, balanced nutrient management—especially nitrogen—and good pest and disease control are essential for healthy growth and high-quality leafy vegetables.
