Coffee
Coffee is a highly valued beverage crop grown primarily for its seeds, known as coffee beans. It thrives in tropical and subtropical regions with moderate temperatures ranging from 18–24 °C and requires a humid climate with well-distributed rainfall of 1500–2500 mm annually. Coffee plants grow best in well-drained, fertile soils rich in organic matter, such as loamy or volcanic soils, and prefer slightly acidic soil with a pH of 6–6.5. Shade and protection from strong winds are important for young plants, while adequate sunlight is needed for flowering and fruit development. Coffee cultivation also demands proper irrigation, mulching, and regular pruning to maintain healthy growth. With careful management of pests, diseases, and nutrient requirements, coffee plants can produce high-quality beans that are aromatic and flavorful.
