Dragon Fruit
Dragon fruit, also known as pitaya, is a strikingly colorful tropical fruit prized for its sweet taste, unique appearance, and high nutritional value, including vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber. It is cultivated from Hylocereus cactus species, which are succulent climbing cacti that thrive in tropical and subtropical climates. Dragon fruit grows best in well-drained sandy or loamy soils with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6–7). The plant prefers warm temperatures between 20°C and 30°C and requires full sunlight for optimal flowering and fruiting. Although drought-tolerant, dragon fruit benefits from regular irrigation during flowering and fruit development. The plants need support structures to climb, proper pruning for airflow, and protection from waterlogging and frost. With suitable care, dragon fruit plants can produce vibrant, sweet, and nutrient-rich fruits throughout the growing season.
