Potato
Potato is an important tuber crop grown widely for its high carbohydrate content and versatile use as a food crop. It grows best in cool climates with an ideal temperature range of about 15–25 °C. Potatoes require well-drained, loose, and fertile loamy or sandy-loam soil rich in organic matter, as compact or waterlogged soils hinder tuber development. The crop needs moderate rainfall or regular irrigation, especially during tuber formation, but excess moisture can cause diseases. Proper sunlight, good soil aeration, and timely planting are essential for healthy growth. Potatoes are usually grown during the rabi season in many regions, and careful management of pests, diseases, and nutrients helps achieve high yield and good-quality tubers.
