Sugarcane
Sugarcane is a tropical and subtropical crop grown primarily for its high sugar content and as a raw material for jaggery, sugar, and biofuels. It thrives in warm and humid climates with temperatures between 20–35 °C and requires a long growing season of 10–18 months. Sugarcane grows best in well-drained, fertile soils, such as alluvial, loamy, or clay loam soils rich in organic matter. The crop needs abundant water, either through rainfall or irrigation, as it is a water-intensive crop, but waterlogging can damage the roots. Adequate sunlight, regular weeding, and proper fertilization are essential for healthy growth and high yields. Sugarcane is usually propagated through stem cuttings, and careful pest and disease management ensures the production of healthy, high-sugar stalks.
